Legal Assistant

An established Marion, Ohio law office is seeking a dependable, organized, and motivated Legal Assistant to join our Marion, Ohio office. This is a full-time position for someone who is comfortable managing multiple priorities, communicating with clients, working independently, and being an active part of a team.
Prior legal experience is preferred but not required. We are willing to train the right candidate; however, applicants must have prior administrative or professional office experience and be comfortable learning and working within multiple computer programs.
Position Details
- Full-time
- Monday through Friday
- Approximately 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., with some flexibility in start time
- Hourly compensation based upon experience
- Paid time off

Responsibilities
The Legal Assistant will be responsible for managing an individual case workflow while working closely with attorneys and other staff members. Duties will include:
- Communicating professionally with clients, courts, opposing counsel, and other offices
- Managing and maintaining assigned case files and deadlines
- Drafting correspondence, pleadings, and other legal documents
- Preparing and completing court filings
- Filing and organizing documents electronically and within case-management systems
- Performing local court runs when necessary
- Monitoring deadlines and following up on outstanding matters
- Maintaining accurate and organized electronic files
- Handling multiple tasks and changing priorities throughout the workday
- Assisting attorneys and other staff members as needed
Our practice includes family law, divorce, custody, criminal, and civil matters, so the work is varied and requires someone who can remain organized in a fast-paced environment.
Qualifications
Required:
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Previous administrative or professional office experience
- Strong computer skills and ability to learn new software quickly
- Proficiency with Microsoft Word and general office technology
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Excellent organizational and time-management abilities
- Ability to independently manage assigned responsibilities
- Strong attention to detail
- Dependable attendance and consistent work ethic
- Professional demeanor when communicating with clients and court personnel
- Ability to work effectively as part of a team
Preferred:
- Previous legal-office experience
- Associate degree or comparable education
- Experience with Microsoft Outlook and Adobe
- Experience preparing professional documents or managing detailed case files
