Position Summary
A growing manufacturing organization is seeking a skilled and motivated Woodshop / Pattern Maker to join its production team. This position is ideal for candidates with pattern-making, woodworking, cabinetmaking, carpentry, or related manufacturing experience, as well as individuals with foundational woodworking skills and a strong desire to learn. The successful candidate will assist in the creation of custom patterns, molds, and prototypes using wood, fiberglass-reinforced plastic (FRP), and other materials while maintaining a strong commitment to quality and workplace safety.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Design, build, and repair patterns, molds, prototypes, and related components using wood, plastics, and composite materials.
- Read and interpret blueprints, technical drawings, sketches, and specifications.
- Operate woodworking and pattern shop equipment, including saws, routers, sanders, drills, and other hand and power tools.
- Measure, cut, shape, assemble, and finish components to required specifications and tolerances.
- Collaborate with production staff, engineers, and designers to ensure product functionality and manufacturability.
- Inspect completed work for accuracy, quality, and conformance to specifications.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment.
- Follow all safety policies and procedures, including the proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
- Assist with continuous improvement efforts and learn new pattern-making and woodworking techniques as needed.
Minimum Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED required.
- Previous woodworking, carpentry, cabinetmaking, patternmaking, manufacturing, or related experience preferred.
- Basic knowledge of woodworking tools and equipment.
- Ability to read measuring tools and follow technical instructions.
- Strong attention to detail and craftsmanship.
- Good problem-solving skills and mechanical aptitude.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Effective verbal communication skills.
- Experience working with fiberglass-reinforced plastic (FRP) materials is a plus but not required.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to lift and move materials weighing up to 50 pounds.
- Ability to stand, walk, bend, stoop, and use hand tools for extended periods.
- Ability to safely wear required personal protective equipment, including respirators, safety glasses, gloves, and protective clothing.
- Ability to work in a manufacturing environment with dust, fiberglass particles, adhesives, coatings, and industrial equipment.
Work Environment
This position is performed in a manufacturing and production environment. Employees may be exposed to fiberglass dust, sanding materials, adhesives, coatings, machinery, and other industrial processes. Proper PPE must be worn at all times.
