Job Description: The Stark County Community Action Agency in Canton, OH, has a full-time Program Aide opening.

 

Position Concept:

To support Head Start program staff in maintaining a safe and healthy environment for children during bus transportation and at the center.                                                                           

 

Duties:

  • Ride the bus with the Bus Driver daily to pick up and take home all children assigned to the route. Support the Bus Driver in maintaining vehicle rules.
  • Assist children on and off the bus. Assist children in fastening and securing seat belts and child restraints.
  • Use developmentally appropriate methods to monitor and support passenger behavior to ensure safety.
  • Maintain an active seating chart.
  • Responsible for obtaining needed medications from classroom for transportation from school, delivering to parent or storing in bus garage and returning to classroom teacher upon delivery to school.
  • Conduct thorough child count during transportation and post-trip.
  • Ensure chain of custody (child count form) is signed by parents and education staff.
  • Ensure that children are released only to authorized individuals listed on the Child Information Form or signed addendums.
  • Maintain developmentally appropriate preschool practices when interacting with children. Use age-appropriate techniques to maintain safe transport of children.
  • Conduct monthly safety drills as required with the Bus Driver.
  • Complete required paperwork and reports as directed by Transportation Manager.
  • Maintain safe workplace environment in the bus garage area in accordance with regulations and agency policies and procedures.
  • Assist in classrooms as needed for coverage under the direction of the Center Manager.
  • Report all vehicle maintenance concerns or safety hazards to Transportation Manager.
  • Maintain confidentiality in all areas for children, families, staff and records.
  • Attend all required trainings and in-services.
  • Adhere to agency personnel policies and procedures and Head Start performance standards.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

 

Skills/Qualifications:

  • Must possess high school diploma or GED equivalent.
  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • Pre-employment background check, drug screen and physical required. A physical ability exam must be passed annually.
  • A current, valid driver’s license is required. Current personal vehicle insurance coverage is required.

 

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to assist children on and off the bus. Pushes, lifts, bends, reaches, sits, walks during work hours. Ability to lift 50 lbs.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced and often high-stress environment as well as the ability to adapt quickly to workload changes.

 

Details: Full time. First Shift (7:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.). 40 hours/week. Monday through Thursday. $15.36/hour.

 

Qualifications: High school diploma / GED. Must have at least 5 years of experience. Must be able to lift 50 lbs.

 

Driver’s License Requirement(s): Must have a valid driver’s license.
