Ohio Chemical Dependency Counselor Assistant (CDCA) Preliminary

CDCA Preliminary Areas of Responsibility:

* Individual and Group sessions using Evidence-Based Practices (e.g-, following

curriculum). Complete Assessments signed off by the Clinical $upervisor

*Documentation in Electronic Health Record

Correspondence to patients regarding missed appointments

*Collection of Random Urine Screens

*Counsel clients within individual and group sessions, to assist clients with

overcoming dependencies, adjusting to life, and motivation to change

*Counsel families (e.E., conjoint) psychoeducation regarding addiction

treatment/prevention programs as needed

* Follow the Ohio Chemical Dependency Professionals Board

*Other duties as assigned (e.g., assist with Luncheons for0utpatient

graduation)

*Reports directly to the Clinical Supervisor. Participates in weekly Supervision of

overall work and following the OCDPB Grid to meet CDCA Requirernents/CDCA

The Chemical Dependency Counselor Assistant (CDCA) credential, issued by the Ohio

Chemical Dependency Professionals Board (OCDPB), authorizes individuals to provide

chemical dependency services under supervision within approved treatment settings. The

credential is designed as an entry point into the substance use disorder counseling profession

and consists of two levels: the CDCA Preliminary (Preliminary) and the CDCA Renewal.

The "first CDCA" you must apply for is the CDCA Preliminary (CDCA PRE). It is the initial

temporary CDCA that expires after thirteen months. It is Non-Renewable. It requires 40

hours of education in certain content areas shown on the CDCA Preliminary

Grid. Individuals must hold the CDCA Preliminary for a minimum of 10 months before

applying for the next CDCA certificate.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Facilitate individual and group counseling sessions utilizing evidence-based practices and approved curricula.
• Assist with substance use disorder assessments under the supervision of a Clinical Supervisor.
• Maintain accurate and timely documentation in an Electronic Health Record (EHR) system.
• Communicate with clients regarding missed appointments and treatment participation.
• Collect and document random urine drug screens in accordance with agency policies.
• Provide support, guidance, and counseling to clients working to overcome substance use challenges and make positive life changes.
• Assist families through education and support services related to addiction treatment and recovery.
• Adhere to all requirements established by the Ohio Chemical Dependency Professionals Board (OCDPB) and maintain compliance with credentialing standards.
• Participate in regular clinical supervision and professional development activities.
• Support treatment program operations and special activities as assigned.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

Education

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Associate degree or Bachelor's degree in a related field preferred.

Experience

• No prior experience required; training provided.
• Experience working with adults affected by substance use disorders, behavioral health services, or outpatient treatment settings preferred.
• Minimum of two (2) years of related experience preferred but not required.

Licensure/Certification

• Valid Ohio Chemical Dependency Counselor Assistant (CDCA) Preliminary Credential required at the time of hire or upon employment, in accordance with state requirements.
• Must maintain all credentialing and continuing education requirements as established by the Ohio Chemical Dependency Professionals Board.

Work Environment

This position is typically performed in an outpatient or community-based behavioral health setting and may involve direct interaction with individuals receiving treatment services.

Compensation and Benefits

• Pay Range: $16.00 – $22.00 per hour
