Summary of Position

Ohio Valley Goodwill Industries, founded in 1916, is one of the largest providers of rehabilitation services in the State of Ohio. Utilizing our retail store network, we generate sales revenue to support thousands of individuals with disabilities and homeless local veterans.

The Outlet General Manager is responsible for leading all day-to-day operations of an assigned Outlet store, driving sales and production performance, and developing high-performing teams while ensuring exceptional customer and donor experience. The Outlet Store Manager is accountable for achieving financial, operational, and people-related goals while executing Ohio Valley Goodwill’s mission, values, and brand standards.

Key Responsibilities

Store Operations & Performance 

  • Lead daily store operations, including opening and closing procedures
  • Execute sales, production, and operational plans to achieve store-level performance targets
  • Monitor key performance indicators (sales, production, labor, shrink, and customer experience) and adjust execution accordingly
  • Ensure accurate cash handling, banking, and operational controls

Production, Merchandising & Inventory

  • Oversee production flow from intake to sales floor readiness
  • Ensure quality standards, pricing accuracy, and timely rotation of merchandise
  • Execute visual merchandising standards and company promotions
  • Partner with leadership to identify merchandise suitable for our e-commerce platform

Team Leadership & Development

  • Directly supervise Outlet Assistant Store Managers, Outlet Team Leaders, and hourly associates
  • Recruit, hire, train, coach, and retain a high-performing store team
  • Set clear expectations, provide regular feedback, and manage performance and corrective action
  • Build internal talent pipelines and support leadership development

Scheduling, Labor & Workforce Management

  • Create and manage store schedules to align staffing with business demand
  • Manage labor within budgeted payroll targets
  • Ensure accurate timekeeping and payroll submission

Customer Experience & Brand Standards

  • Model and enforce exceptional customer service standards
  • Resolve escalated customer concerns professionally and promptly
  • Ensure store appearance, cleanliness, and service reflects Goodwill brand expectations

Safety, Compliance & Communication

  • Maintain a safe, secure, and compliant store environment
  • Enforce loss prevention, safety, and organizational policies
  • Complete required reporting accurately and on time
  • Communicate effectively with district leadership and support teams

Mission & Community Impact

  • Support Goodwill’s mission by partnering with Employment and Training programs
  • Act as a positive representative of Goodwill in the community

Supervisory Responsibility

  • Supervises Outlet Assistant Store Managers, Outlet Team Leaders, Merchandise Processors, Sales Associates, and other assigned staff

Required Skills & Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent required; some college preferred
  • Minimum of three (3) years of retail management experience preferred
  • Demonstrated ability to lead teams, manage operations, and drive results
  • Strong customer service, communication, and leadership skills
  • Working knowledge of scheduling, payroll, and retail systems
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule including openings, closings, weekends, and holidays

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to work in climate-controlled and non-climate-controlled environments
  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, stoop, squat, kneel, lift, and climb for extended periods
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 35 pounds with or without reasonable accommodation
  • Ability to perform frequent computer-based work
  • Regular, predictable attendance is required

Working Conditions

  • Primary Environment: Outlet Store and warehouse environment
  • Moderate noise levels typical of a retail and warehouse environment
  • Exposure to donated goods and varying temperatures
  • Driving may be required
