MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
Education equivalent to the completion of the twelfth (12th) school grade. Two years experience in a business or legal office. Some knowledge of the court system and legal terminology. Skill in typing at least 50 words per minute accurately. Ability to file in alphabetic, numeric and chronological order. Ability to sort and code items according to established procedures. Skill in the operation of photocopy equipment and adding machines. Erie County residents preferred.
Pre-employment testing required.

Description of the Job:
The Deputy Clerk of Courts is under direct supervision and is responsible for performing a variety of clerical tasks to facilitate the paperwork involved in civil, criminal and domestic relations cases in the Clerk of Court's office. Direction will be given by the department supervisor.
Essential Functions to be Performed:
Type correspondence or legal documents and forms.
Maintain complex records.
Accept court cost deposits.
Record receipts.
Answer telephone or greet public, answering routine questions; refer more complex inquiries to the proper personnel. ![]()
Arrange files in proper chronological order for microfilming.
Assign number, stamp date and time on pleadings, type jacket and inset papers after procedures are completed; index in docket and pending suits index for cases.
Type summons or other necessary notices.
Type notice to attorney of any failure of service.
Type and issue subpoenas; notes in witness docket and index.
Process passport applications,
Type and issue any of several legal forms (at least 49) when applicable; each paper filed or issued or returned after service must be noted on docket.
File pleadings in respective jackets,
Other Tasks which may be Assigned:
File and index judgement liens from Common Pleas Courts and any other court.
Files Sales Tax Liens, docket and index in docket and pending suits.
Issue and docket all pleadings and writs of the D01nestic Relations Court, transmit copies of all pleadings to the Judge, and certify copies of all support orders or orders affecting payments to ECDHS+
Photocopy each judgement entered in journal in all cases in Common Pleas Court (or miscellaneous orders of the Common Pleas Judge); index each judgement entry in journal.
Take applications for duplicate fishing licenses; necessary jury work and enter names in jury book.
Perform bookkeeping functions
Perform other related duties as required.
Minimum Qualifications:
Education equivalent to the completion of the 12th grade.
Two (2) years experience working in a business or legal office.
Knowledge of office practices and procedures, including bookkeeping
Knowledge of public relations.
Some knowledge of court system and legal terminology.
Understanding of English grammar, spelling, punctuation and word usage.
Ability to work with confidential information.
Ability to follow oral and written instructions.
Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide whole numbers.
Minimum Qualifications:
Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with associates, supervisors, and the general public.
Ability to file in alphabetic, numeric and chronological order.
Ability to sort and code items according to established procedures.
Skill in handwriting.
Skill in typing at least 50 words per minute accurately.
Skill in the operation of photocopy equipment and adding machines.
Bookkeeping experience
Preferred Qualifications:
Erie County residents preferred.
Physical Requirements:
Alternate frequently between sitting/standing/walking throughout an eight (8) hour workday.
Lift/carry a minimum of eight (8) pounds.
Reaching with bilateral upper extremities into/up to/down to various heights.
Push/pull with twenty (20) pounds of initial force.
Climb onto stepladder (2 steps).
Bend/squat/crouch/kneel.
