POSITION SUMMARY
In this role you will be responsible for installing, maintaining, and replacing insulating materials on various mechanical systems, including piping, ductwork, boilers, and HVAC systems. Your work will play a critical role in controlling temperature, reducing energy consumption, preventing condensation, and ensuring workplace safety.
The ideal candidate has a strong understanding of different insulation materials, excellent spatial awareness, and a commitment to strict safety standards.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Installation: Measure, cut, and fit insulation materials (such as fiberglass, mineral wool, foam, and cellular glass) around pipes, tanks, vessels, and ductwork.
- Finishing: Apply protective jackets, canvas, vapor barriers, or mastic coatings over insulation to secure it and protect it from weather, moisture, and mechanical damage.
- Blueprint Reading: Read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and job specifications to determine the required layout and insulation thickness.
- Maintenance & Repair: Inspect existing insulation systems for wear, damage, or energy loss, and perform necessary repairs or removals.
- Safety Compliance: Safely remove old or damaged insulation (following proper protocols for hazardous materials if applicable) and maintain a clean, hazard-free workspace.
- Tool Proficiency: Competently use trade-specific hand and power tools, including knives, saws, wire cutters, stud welders, and banding machines.
- May work in various environments, including indoor commercial buildings, outdoor construction sites, or industrial plants (refineries, power plants, etc.)
- Exposure to varying weather conditions, dust, and high noise levels (appropriate PPE provided)
- Work at heights
QUALIFICATIONS
Required:
- Experience: Proven experience as an Insulator in commercial, industrial, or residential construction.
- Physical Stamina: Ability to stand, kneel, bend, and work in tight or awkward spaces for extended periods. Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
- Heights: Comfort working at heights on scaffolding, ladders, or scissor lifts.
- Technical Skills: Proficiency in measuring accurately and using layout math to cut materials with minimal waste.
- Safety Mindset: Strong knowledge of OSHA safety regulations and proper usage of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), including respirators.
Preferred:
- Completion of a formal apprenticeship program or trade school certification.
- Experience with sheet metal layout and cladding installation.
